Bengals Linebacker Problems

Cincinnati Bengals linebacker David Pollack will miss the rest of the football season as a result of a broken neck. The injury occurred when Pollack smashed into running back Reuben Droughns in the first quarter of the 34-17 victory over the Browns.

Pollack lay on the field of play for a good while before being stretchered off.
The word is that Pollack was conscious and could feel his fingers and toes.

Rashad Jeanty will fill in for Pollack for the Bengals.

Cincinnati are also without linebacker Odell Thurman who is on a four-game suspension for substance abuse.

Johnson Ready To Celebrate

The Cincinnati Bengals' are out to win their first division title in fifteen years. But they have lost three in a row and six of seven to the Pittsburgh Steelers (7-4), including a 27-13 thrashing on Oct. 23. They need to put things straight at Heinz Field to move cloer to the AFC North crown.

Pittsburgh dominated in the October meeting, with 221 rushing yards and held Carson Palmer to his only sub one-hundred passer rating game of 2005. But Cincinnati receiver T.Houshmandzadeh insisted afterward the best team didn't win.

"We left some plays out on the field the last time," Willie Anderson said. "Give Pittsburgh credit. They totally shut down the groove we had on offense. It's on us to reverse that."

Pittsburgh's sputtering rushing game has averaged 78 yards in back-to-back losses. Coach Bill Cowher said, "We haven't played up to our standard all year."

Either way Chad Johnson is planning to entertain the fans with his best touchdown celebration yet.

"That is the Steel City, isn't it?" Johnson said. "The first time we played them, we all know we lost. We had some mistakes that we made early in the game. As far as I'm concerned, we have some things to iron out. The key word is 'iron out'. Everybody remember the key word, iron."

Heading into what amounts to a title showdown, Johnson isn't deviating from his routine of having a little fun with the next opponent. The bigger the game, the bigger the stage.

Bengals To Test Colts

So the question is 'have the Colts really been tested yet?' - 'not sure' is probably the response. The consensus though, is that the Bengals will test them this weekend.

For the sports betting fraternity, the Bengals are at home and have +5 on the spread. It could be worth taking that as Cincinatti may just pull off what could be a memorable win.

The Colts haven't really faced a tough and injury free defense since its 10-3 win over Jacksonville in Week 2. The following week the Colts managed just 13 points in a win over Cleveland. They did, however, more or less destroy; Tennessee, San Francisco, St. Louis, New England and Houston - but all those teams were banged up already with walking wounded and players missing through injury.

This week the Colts face an altogether different prospect. The Bengals are allowing roughly fifteen points a game and they have the best turnover ratio in the league. They are at home and coming off a rest week. Don't think that Marvin Lewis will be saving his motivational speeches for another day.

The football betting minded could do worse than to take the Bengals plus the points.

Bengals Turn Over Ravens

The Cincinnati Bengals beat the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday 21-9. To start off they put together scoring drives of 80 and 91 yards and kept Baltimore touchdown-free.

It was really a case of - three times in the red zone, three times in the end zone for the Bengals and four times in the red zone, three field goals for the Ravens.

Ravens coach Billick summed it up: "Not much you can say, other than math. You can't trade sevens for threes, plain and simple".

The Baltimore Ravens have scored just seven touchdowns this season with 97 points and are the only NFL team yet to break 100

The Bengals led by a less-than-comfortable score of 14-9 before embarking on their 91-yard hike downfield. The crucial play was Carson Palmer's 48-yard pass to Chad Johnson that set up the Bengals at the Baltimore 4-yard line. Three plays later, Palmer hit Chris Henry to widen the score - one that the Ravens could never make up.

"That says a lot about this team," Palmer said. "We answer when we need to. It's not always perfect, it's not always pretty, but when the game's on the line and plays need to be made, guys step up and make plays."

Bengals v Ravens

The Ravens showed on Monday night that they are not as bad as their 2-5 record suggests. You could argue that the Bengals are probably not as good their 6-2 record suggests. These AFC North division rivals will meet on Sunday in Baltimore.

The Ravens, coming off a short week, are desperately clinging to hopes of a play-off berth. If the Cincinnati Bengals manage a victory, they will hit their bye week at 7-2 and have time to prepare for Indianapolis.

Last season, the Bengals pulled off the second greatest road comeback in franchise history. They were 20-3 down at the end of the third quarter, and came back to win 27-26.

This will be the 18th meeting between the teams. The Ravens lead the series 11-6. Baltimore has a 7-2 edge at home. Cincinnati outscored the Ravens 24-6 in the fourth quarter, in the famous comeback, last year at M&T Bank Stadium to win 27-26 - it ended a seven game losing run in Baltimore.

Bengals In Reasonable Shape

Two Bengals players initially listed as questionable, wide receiver Tab Perry and center Eric Ghiaciuc, returned to practice Friday - but outside linebacker Pollack, (sprained knee) did not practice.

Four players listed as probable practiced today: defensive tackle John Thornton (back), tailback Rudi Johnson (knee), wide receiver Chris Henry (groin) and cornerback Keiwan Ratliff (hip).

Green Bay are hit quite badly: Tight end David Martin, who has eleven receptions, two for touchdowns, was added to the injury report as questionable with a groin injury.

The Packers are already without three of their top five wide receivers.

With the Bengals wearing their 'Halloween outfits' of orange and white for Sunday's game - they may well give the Packers a fright on the eve of Halloween.
