Chicago Handed Game by Garcia
For Jeff Garcia this was painful - mentally and physically. His left leg was padded due the the break he'd sustained two months prior to this game. His right leg, was scraped and bloody from the game. There was something close to tears in his eyes as he made one vital error which cost his team the game.
"Just trying to make a play," Garcia said Sunday, after the Lions' 19-13 overtime loss to the Bears at Ford Field. "I know from experience not to throw the ball across the field while I'm rolling one way or the other. It's just looking for bad things to happen." But he did it anyway. Garcia dropped back, rolled to his right and threw the ball across the middle of the park for wide receiver Mike Williams. But Chicago cornerback, Charles Tillman, cut in front of Williams and intercepted the pass, returning it 22 yards into the end zone.
"The ball was floating," Tillman said. "But my eyes weren't big until I caught it and knew I would score. This is my third year in the league and it's my first time in first place - it's feeling pretty good. I'm going to savor the moment."
