Philadelphia are 18th in the NFL in points scored, but to be fair it is largely as a result of injuries - not that that fact seemed to bother the Patriots last season - although they are feeling the effects more this season. The Eagles are without Terrell Owens, McNabb, Brian Westbrook, Tra Thomas, Todd Pinkston and Hank Fraley - six first team players from a unit that were eighth in the league in scoring last season on the way to the NFC championship.
The Eagles defense is in a sorrier state - 25th in the league in points allowed and 25th in yards allowed but without the luxury of excuses - with just one signicant injury. How has a defence that finished second in the league (points allowed) last season gone down so quickly...
It could be to do with sacks - last year Phildelphia finished second in the league in sacks with 47. In thirteen games this season, they have attained just 26. Even with a games remaining at the current rate they will squeak past thirty sacks in total - which would be the fewest sacks by an Eagles defense - in a non-strike year -for over twenty-five years.
Their inability to pressure the quarterback has put them under pressure themselves. Philly have already given up twenty touchdown passes in this season's games, which is the most by the defense since they gave up twenty-two in 1999 - the year that head coach Andy Reid and defensive coordinator Jim Johnson arrive.
